Abstract

Objective: To develop a program for calculating the risk of caries in children during the period of tooth replacement.

Material and methods: Sixty children with an intact bite were observed in this study. The normal values obtained in this group served as a calibration criterion, which was subsequently used as a reference point for calculating the probability of carious process development. Clinical examination included the following index-based assessments: caries intensity, hygiene index, gingivitis index, enamel remineralization rate, and enamel resistance test. Laboratory analysis of oral fluid included the following parameters: pH measurement, active concentration of sodium and potassium ions, total concentration of phosphate and calcium ions, specific electrical conductivity and viscosity, type of microcrystallization, as well as the demineralizing activity/utilization capacity of the oral fluid sediment and the mineralizing potential. The cariogenicity of dental plaque and the quantitative composition of the microflora were also assessed using Orion Diagnostica selective media.

Results: AI -based technologies are now permeating an increasing number of socially important fields. Medicine, in both its practical and scientific dimensions, has become one of the areas of application. The legislative framework provides a clear foundation underlying the development of such systems. The use of AI in dentistry can undoubtedly bring about a breakthrough in the development of mathematical models and in the prediction of numerous processes underlying a wide range of diseases, as well as in the development of classifications, systematization, identification, and dynamic monitoring of pathological processes.

Conclusions: The use of AI in dentistry is already reflected in several contemporary publications, both in the Russian Federation and abroad. In this regard, our task is to search for ways and points of application for these technologies and, as a result, to achieve their solid integration in order to bring preventive and predictive dentistry to a qualitatively new level, consistent with the trends of modern science and practice.
