Abstract
This article describes a clinical case of successful treatment of a severe form of cutaneous anthrax in the neck area of a 35-year-old man, a resident of Farkhor. On admission, the patient presented with extensive, rapidly progressing edema that began in the neck and extended to the level of the chest, severe dyspnea, a sensation of retrosternal constriction and heaviness, and fever. On local examination, an ulcer with a dark base, surrounded by secondary vesicles, was found on the right lateral and anterior surface of the neck. Based on the clinical presentation, epidemiological history, and laboratory tests, the following diagnosis was established: anthrax, cutaneous form; anthrax carbuncle of the neck, right side; severe course; complications: infectious-toxic shock, grade I; DIC syndrome. The patient received a comprehensive course of treatment. Over the course of 3 weeks, the clinical manifestations of the cutaneous form of anthrax progressed through all the typical stages of development, from ulcer to eschar separation. This case highlights the importance of timely diagnosis and adequate therapy for severe cutaneous forms of anthrax.
